Crane Viewing Tours

VIP Crane Safari

VIP Crane Safari

The Crane Trust Safari offers a one-of-a-kind adventure on historic Crane Trust lands which includes three days of spectacular Sandhill Crane migration viewing and related activities with two nights lodging. The Crane Trust’s private Legacy Cottages are situated on 4,500 beautiful acres of native tallgrass prairie and wetland meadows. Each experience is unique, designed to foster positive, lifelong connections to one of the greatest wildlife phenomena in North America.

"The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium proudly partnered with the Crane Trust to offer a first-ever opportunity to experience the great Sandhill Crane migration in 2013. Not surprisingly, the Zoo’s travelers and members “flocked” to Nebraska on a sold-out group tour to view these mighty feathered fliers in action. Each participant returned home not only with rave reviews about this amazing spectacle, but also about their accommodations at the Wild Rose Ranch and the excellent service and attention they received from the Crane Trust team. The Zoo’s second journey was another success and we remain grateful for our partnership with the Crane Trust and their ability to assist us in fulfilling our mission to lead and inspire by connecting people and wildlife." – Patti Cattey, Community Engagement Coordinator, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

The Crane Trust Safari is available to organizations looking to provide a unique experience for their customers/members and includes guides, lodging for 12-24 guests, meals and beverages, Sandhill Crane migration viewing, nature programs & social activities. Guests will find themselves viewing the migration through a heated private VIP blind situated along the river by the largest Sandhill Crane roost in the world at sunrise and sunset. Guests can choose from a variety of activities to enrich their experience during the day such as guided prairie hikes to learn about the ecology of the surrounding habitat and wildlife. Another popular daytime option includes an SUV back-road tour of Sandhill Cranes dancing/feeding on neighboring farmlands and up-close viewing of our genetically pure American bison herd.

The Crane Trust also hosts a safari for individuals not traveling with a group and wish to spend a couple days immersed in the migration. Crane Safaris are available on a limited basis only during the spring migration and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are required and must be made well in advance of migration season.
