Speaker Series: "Cranes After Dark" with Kylee Warren

Sunday, March 10, 2024

Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center

Join Crane Trust's Virtual Producer Kylee Warren and spend the evening on the river with Sandhill Cranes during migration. You might see tens of thousands of cranes fill the opalescent skies and congregate on golden-lit sandbars as the sun dips beneath the Platte River horizon. Stay well after the light is gone, and you'll hear these birds' calls, cries, and purrs most of the night. What do they get up to, and what keeps them alert throughout the evening? Thanks to infrared technology in Crane Trust Virtual Wildlife Cameras, we can now see the nightlife of these birds and learn more about their behavior.

Cranes After Dark explores the nightlife of these cranes as they stage on the Platte River during their annual migrations. Join us as we observe archived footage of crane behavior from these cameras and explore what we know about the affairs of Cranes After Dark.

Kylee has followed the Nebraska sandhill crane migration for ten years. She currently produces Crane Trust’s Virtual Programs and other visual media content throughout the year. Kylee began her multimedia career when she picked up a camera to film Sandhill Cranes in Nebraska, Oregon and New Mexico in 2009. In 2017, Kylee graduated from the University of Sydney with a PhD in Film and Digital Media, and contributed to talks, conferences, and publications in that industry. She has a lifelong passion for adventure traveling, conservation journalism and wildlife, and extensive training in film, photography and public affairs. When she’s not working with clients or photographing for assignment, Kylee enjoys rucking the high plains wilderness, and volunteering to support America’s veterans.
