Sandhill Crane Counts 2021 - Week 9

We counted an estimated 18,900+/-1,100 Sandhill Cranes in the Central Platte River Valley (CPRV) between Chapman and Overton, Nebraska, on 12 April 2021. This represents just over half of what we counted last week. Sandhill Cranes were again present between Kearney and Shelton in the middle and western portions of our survey route, but the overwhelming majority were near Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary and just to its west. We were above the abundance threshold necessary to prompt a week 10 survey, and therefore we will be doing a final spring migration aerial survey on 19 April 2021. However, we may not provide a public update for the last flight. Thanks again for your support of our work in the CPRV and beyond.
